Feel the rush of adrenaline and explore the striking lunar landscape of the Agafay Desert at speed. Located just 45 minutes south of Marrakech, this stone desert with its barren, rolling hills provides the ultimate playground for a quad biking or buggy adventure.
Leave the bustle of the souks behind and ride through rugged dirt tracks, hills, and dry riverbeds (wadis) with the majestic High Atlas Mountains forming a spectacular background. Guided by professional instructors and including a stop for fresh mint tea in a traditional Berber tent, this half-day activity combines speed, scenery, and local hospitality.
The adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. Leaving the medina, we drive southwest for about 45 minutes as the urban landscape fades into the wide, rocky plains leading to Agafay.
On arrival at the desert base camp, you'll be greeted by our professional instructor team. You will be fitted with all the necessary safety gear, including a helmet, goggles, and a dust scarf.
After a clear explanation of how to operate the vehicle (easy-to-use automatic transmission), you will take a quick practice ride in a flat area to get comfortable with the controls before heading out onto the desert trails.
We set off on a guided 2-hour route through a changing landscape of dusty dirt tracks, steep clay ridges, and rocky riverbeds. The guide adjusts the group's pace to match the comfort and skill level of all riders, ensuring a safe yet exciting experience. Along the way, we make several stops at scenic lookouts to take photos with the Atlas Mountains in the background.
Halfway through the ride, we stop at a traditional Berber camp. Here, we can relax under a nomad tent and enjoy a freshly brewed glass of hot mint tea and local sweets, giving you a chance to chat with the guides and learn about the local culture.
Following the break, we complete the final loop of the ride back to the base camp. After returning your equipment and shaking off the desert dust, your private driver will be ready to transport you comfortably back to your accommodation in Marrakech.
No prior experience or driver's license is required. The quad bikes are fully automatic and very stable, and the instructor will guide you through the basics in a few minutes. Quad drivers must be at least 16 years old; younger children can ride as passengers on a double quad with an adult.
The Palmeraie is a flat, dirt area surrounded by palm groves close to the city. The Agafay Desert, while lacking sand dunes, features a rugged, hilly terrain with dry canyons and open views of the High Atlas. This makes the off-road riding in Agafay much more dynamic, scenic, and adventurous.
We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes (sneakers or boots) and long pants to protect your legs from engine heat and flying gravel. A light jacket or windbreaker is also a good idea as it can be breezy in the desert, especially in the early morning or at sunset.
Yes, we offer morning departures (around 9:00 AM) and afternoon departures (around 3:00 PM). The afternoon slot is timed to catch the sunset over the Agafay Desert, providing beautiful golden-hour lighting for photos.
